Drugs for Africa

With love from Canada

The House of Commons in Canada voted in favor to amend Canada’s Access to Medicines Regime, permitting generic drug manufacturers in Canada to send as much antiretroviral AIDS drugs to Africa as needed.

Rather than illustrate simple pills pouring out of the bottle, I thought that candy hearts would indicate that this is a good thing (the potential to save millions of lives!). I did a version in hot candy pink, but valentine heart red (which happens to match the Canadian flag and the more obvious association HIV has with blood) looked more dramatic.

The illustration appears in April’s IN Toronto magazine.
